Description
The Bradwell Shell Bank is a nature reserve of 12 hectares. A visit at high tide (see link to tides table below) in autumn and winter will reward you with views of up to 20,000 waders roosting and creating murmurations in the sky. This saltmarsh is a habitat for a wide variety of birds, from Žuta Pastirica to Poljska Ševa. During the summer months waders such as Oštrigar and Kulik Blatarić will breed along the shellbanks, so please keep to the seawall to avoid disturbance and watch them raise their young from afar.
The mud and sandflats to the east are part of the Dengie National Nature Reserve, an internationally important site for overwintering waders especially Zlatar Pijukavac, Rđasti Žalar and Riđa muljača. Winter often brings Eja Strnjarica and Sova močvarica.
