Description
Burghead is situated on a narrow promontory projecting into the Moray Firth. The place is good for sea ducks in winter and waders on shore at low tide. Among the birds you can see are Gavka, Patka ledara, Crna patka, Patka kulašica, Oštrokljuna njorka, Tankokljuna njorka, Crna njorka, Mali ronac, Rđasti Žalar, Veliki Pozviždač, Kameničak, Morski žalar, Oštrigar, Patka Batoglavica, Sjeverna trepteljka and Morski Vranac. In summer the bay is fishing ground for Bukoč. Besides birds you can spot seals and dolphins. The Moray Firth is home to over 1500 common seals, and up to 500 grey seals come into the Firth in the summer. The Moray Firth is also home to the most northerly resident population of bottle nose dolphins in the world and on a calm day dolphins can be seen leaping out of the water.
