Description
The River Monnow is a scenic area noted for blossoming fruit orchards in spring. On warm mornings up to 50 Gavran soar the thermals, with Škanjac and maybe a Kobac. On the river there are Siva Čaplja, Mala Bijela Čaplja, Gorska Pastirica, Bregunica, Čiopa, Vodomar, Vodenkos and Mandarinska patka. The fruit orchards attract large numbers of wintering Drozd Bravenjak and Mali Drozd.

Head west from Monmouth via Rockfield to park at Skenfrith Castle. Cafe here in summer. Pub is expensive. Or take Osbaston road to Tregate bridge where there is limited parking. 6 mile circular walk available along both river banks, passing Llanrothal chapel (open) and Ruthlin mill.
