Description
An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly Brezov Zviždak and Zviždak, but also Grmuša čevrljinka and Crnokapa Grmuša. More mature trees provide habitat for Šumska sova. Brgljez and Rose-ringed Parakeet have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular Vodomar and Gorska Pastirica, and occasional Vodenkos in winter. In its lower tidal section Crvenonoga Prutka is regular, and the semi-tame Divlja Patkas can attract other ducks, including Utva, Kržulja, and more rarely Patka Lastarka and Mandarinska patka. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; Sjeverni plijenor, Tankokljuna njorka and Oštrokljuna njorka have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of Troprsti galebs moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
