Description

Westwood Dam and Woodland is a hidden gem for birdwatching in Sheffield. The area has a variety of birds of prey including Škanjac, Sivi Sokol, Vjetruša, Kobac, Šumska sova and Sivi Ćuk. As well as this, the small streams and brooks found within the woodland support Gorska Pastirica territories, as well as small numbers of Muharica in the summer.

Winter migrants include Mali Drozd and Drozd Bravenjak, as well as the occasional flock of Kugara. Summer sightings include migrant Brezov Zviždak, Siva Grmuša, and Zviždak, as well as breeding Šumska šljuka territories. The open water of Westwood Dam and Reservoir can produce some surprises, including Žutokljuni Labud in previous years. The woodland supported some of the city's last known pairs of Mali djetao in the early 2000s.
