Description
Weymouth gets very busy during the Summer peak holiday season and is best avoided during this time. Weymouth Harbour is protected by The Nothe and Pavilion Piers, two Easterly projecting peninsulas giving excellent views of the bay. During Winter Mali ronac, Gavka, Crna patka, Ćubasti Gnjurac and Sjeverni plijenor are the most common, smaller numbers of Crvenogrli Plijenor, Crnogrli Plijenor, Patka ledara, Ušati gnjurac, Crnogrli Gnjurac, Riđogrli Gnjurac, Tankokljuna njorka and Oštrokljuna njorka can be expected. During Spring returning Dugokljuna Čigra, Crvenokljuna Čigra and Mala Čigra are usually seen. During periods of prolonged freezing conditions Patka crninka, Bijeli ronac and Veliki ronac seek out the bays sheltered conditions. During Autumn Nothe Gardens can hold Vatroglavi Kraljić, Crnoglava Muharica and Sivkasta Bjeloguza (an early morning visit is best). Autumn gales especially from the East can give seabirds such as Burnica, Mali Galeb and Lastorepi galeb. Weymouth Bay has an extremely large Riječni Galeb roost during Winter months. From Pavilion Pier check carefully through the flock for more unusual species.
