Description

Ophthalmia Dam, located 20 km northeast of Newman in Western Australia, is a birding oasis in the Pilbara region. Formed in 1981, this 16-square-kilometer water body provides a crucial habitat for waterfowl, featuring frequent sightings of Black Swan, Little Black Cormorant and Great Egret among numbers of other species.

Over 150 species have been recorded at this site via eBird.

Access

Located 20 km east of Newman, Ophthalmia Dam is accessed from the Great Northern Hwy (travelling SE towards Capricorn Roadhouse) via Marble Bar Road and the Dam Access Road.
