Description
This extensive protected area includes two lakes, Lago Lungo and Lago di Ripasottile, surrounded by reeds and patches of hygrophilous forest. The reserve is among the most important wetlands in Lazio for wintering birds. An ideal place for birdwatching, the lakes host a large number of birds, especially during the winter months and during migratory passages. Over 200 bird species have been observed, including: Bakcsó, Szürke gém, Barna rétihéja, üstökösgém, Nagy kócsag, Kontyos réce, Kanalas réce, Tőkés réce, Barátréce, Búbos vöcsök, Kis vöcsök, Cigányréce, Daru, Kékes rétihéja.

Italiano: L'Area Protetta molto estesa comprende due laghi, Lago Lungo e Lago di Ripasottile, circondati da canneti e lembi di bosco igrofilo; per lo svernamento degli uccelli la riserva si pone tra le zone umide più importanti del Lazio. Luogo ideali per il birdwatching, i laghi ospitando soprattutto nei mesi invernali e in occasione dei passi migratori un gran numero di uccelli, oltre duecento le specie osservate.

Riserva Naturale dei Laghi Lungo e Ripasottile is located 10 km north of the town of Rieti. Whether coming from the north or south, the SR79 passes between the two lakes, from which you'll decide which one to head. Both lakes have parking lots. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking.
