Description
The Kerkepolder is a polder directly south of the village of Wognum. The area is an important green buffer between Wognum and the city of Hoorn. The area consists largely of open grasslands with long, narrow plots and ditches. The wet meadows with puddles are favorable for meadow birds. The Kerkepolder is also very popular with walkers and runners from Wognum. A beautiful route, approximately 3.5 km long, circles the area.
The area is only 14 hectares in size, but is home to a surprising amount and variety of bird life. The Kerkepolder is a stopping place for migrating birds, so it is always a surprise what is present during the migration period. In winter, many geese can be found: Apácalúd, Nyári lúd and Nagy lilik, while in spring you will mainly find meadow birds, such as Nagy goda, Pajzsoscankó, Piroslábú cankó and Kis lile. The sárga billegető can also often be seen there.

Nederlands: De Kerkepolder is een kenmerkend West-Fries landschap direct ten zuiden van de dorpskern van Wognum. Het is een gebied met natte weilanden die vele weidevogels aantrekkelijk vinden. Apácalúd, Csörgo réce, Fütyülő réce, Nagy goda en sárga billegető komen hier graag. Het gebied vormt een belangrijke groene buffer tussen Wognum en de stad Hoorn en bestaat grotendeels uit open graslanden met de voor deze regio typische lange, smalle kavels en sloten. Dankzij het veen dat hier nog in de bodem zit, en het beheer van Landschap Noord-Holland-Noord ontstaan natte weilanden met plas-dras en gunstige omstandigheden voor weidevogels. De Kerkepolder is ook zeer geliefd bij wandelaars en hardlopers uit Wognum. Er loopt een mooie route om het gebied heen, die in totaal zo'n 3,5 km lang is.
Het gebied is slechts 14 hectare groot, maar huisvest een verrassende hoeveelheid en variatie aan vogels. In de winter zijn er veel ganzen te vinden: Apácalúd , Nyári lúd , Nagy lilik, terwijl in het voorjaar vooral wiedevogels zult vinden. Denk aan Nagy goda, Pajzsoscankó, Piroslábú cankó en Kis lile. Ook is sárga billegető er vaak te zien. De Kerkepolder is een pleisterplaats voor doortrekkende vogels, waardoor het altijd een verrassing is wat er in de trektijd aanwezig is.

Access
The Kerkepolder is best accessed from Wognum. The best place to park is Raadhuisstraat next to the church. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. From here, turn left onto Oude Gouw, keeping left to complete the 3,5 km loop. This loop can also be driven, but it is a narrow main road with no parking. The area is also easily accessible by bike, so walking or cycling is the best option.

Nederlands: De Kerkepolder is het best toegankelijk vanuit Wognum. Parkeren kan het best aan de Raadhuisstraat naast de kerk. Druk op P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplek. Van hieruit loop je linksaf de Oude Gouw op, hou je steeds links aan om het rondje van 3,5 km te maken. Dit rondje kan ook met de auto gereden worden, maar het betreft een smalle doorgaande weg zonder parkeerplaatsen. Het gebied is verder goed bereikbaar te fiets, dus lopen of fietsen is de beste optie.
