Description
Maer Lake is approximately 22 acres of wetland grazing meadows, 3/4 of which can be under water during periods of prolonged heavy rainfall. The reserve is jointly run by Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Cornwall Birdwatching and Preservation Society, BE AWARE there is NO ACCESS to the reserve, but views can be had from the narrow road (Maer Lane) on it's Western side. This site has had rare birds such as Temminck-partfutó, citrombillegető, Wilson-víztaposó, Kis partfutó, vékonycsőrű víztaposó and a possibility of wild swans and more unusual gulls.

Access
The A39 runs North East to South West just to the East of the town of Bude. On the Southern edge of the town of Stratton leave the A39 onto the B3072 (Stratton Road) to Bude, in Bude take a right turn into Bencoolen Road. Just before the bridge turn right into The Strand, continue on this road eventually becoming Belle Vue and then Golf House Road. Take the next left into Downs View that takes you to Crooklets car park (Fee Payable). Park here and follow map to the lake.
