Description
Talybont Reservoir has two bird hides, car parking, and a nice cafe in the village. Shallow water, marshland and exposed mud at the top end attract dabbling ducks, waders especially Erdei szalonka, Sárszalonka, Kis sárszalonka, Szürke gém, Kis kócsag and Guvat in autumn and winter. The woods have Kormos légykapó, Egerészölyv, Macskabagoly, Csuszka, Hegyi fakusz and Lappantyú. In the surrounding streams look for hegyi billegető, Vízirigó and cigánycsuk. And on the moors may be Nagy póling, Aranylile, Red Grouse, Holló, Réti pityer and Hantmadár . The nearby canal has Jégmadár.

Access
Between Brecon and Abergavenny. Take the B4558 and turn south in Talybont village. A regular bus service runs through the village, from which it's a 2 mile walk to the reservoir. The circular route up to Tor y Foel is 5 km, with 250 metres of ascent. Stout boots, a hiking pole, snacks, a drink and waterproof clothing are recommended.
