Description

Viru Viru Airport is located near Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Between flights, it's easy to observe and often photograph several interesting species in the grasslands or scattered bushes. You can comfortably observe for 1-2 hours without necessarily needing a spotting scope. Birds you can observe include Red-winged Tinamou, Greater Rhea, Guira Cuckoo, Smooth-billed Ani, Nacunda Nighthawk, Southern Lapwing, Maguari Stork, Bare-faced Ibis, Whistling Heron, White-tailed Kite, Long-winged Harrier, Burrowing Owl, Chestnut-fronted Macaw, Campo Flicker, Red-crested Cardinal, and Vermilion Flycatcher.

Viru Viru Airport is located 15 km north of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Easily accessible by plane or car via the airport. Press P on the map for directions. The observation point is directly at the parking lot. The circular route shown on the map is about 7 km.
