Description
Get up early with high tide, before the dogwalkers appear, and the beach will have plenty of birds in easy reach of a short stroll. Tjaldur, Fjöruspói, Gráhegri and Stelkur are all likely on the beach around the waterline. Tildra, Grákráka and Maríuerla ssp yarrellii may be more likely on exposed seaweed or flotsam around the tide mark. Bláhrafn is also possible. Toppskarfur is most likely hauled out on rocky outcrops, although Dílaskarfur is becoming more common in recent times. Hettumáfur is common with occasional Lónamáfur. Æðarfugl and Stokkönd are likely in the water.
For a slightly longer walk a path goes along the cliffs at the north end of the bay where Strandtittlingur, Hagaskvetta and Bjargkorpungur could be encountered.
