Description
The Tiber Floodplain Protected Natural Area includes stretches of the river and floodplains (golenas) that encourage the resting and nesting of numerous bird species.
The species you can observe vary seasonally, typically including herons, egrets, various duck species, and wetland-dependent raptors. The trails allow for the exploration of the riverbanks and riparian woodlands. Spring and autumn are the ideal times to witness migratory passage, while winter is best for wintering waterfowl. Species that can be observed include Gráhegri, Bjarthegri, Mjallhegri, Sefhæna, Nátthegri, Bláþyrill, Býsvelgur, Herfugl and Rindilþvari.

Access
Area Naturale Protetta Golena del Tevere is located west of the town of Sansepolcro. Whether approaching from the North or South on the E45, take the Sansepolcro exit. Follow the signs for Anghiari/Arezzo, then follow local directions for the 'zona golenale' (floodplain) or Strada Comunale Falcigiano Santa Fiora (roadside parking available). Press P on the map for directions.
