Description
Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large Heiðlóa flocks in winter, with records of Gulllóa and Glitlóa. Passage Spói and Spóatíta. Winter Sendlingur. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the Dvergþernas that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.
Lómur and Himbrimi, and occasionally Glitbrúsi, can be seen offshore in winter, and Svalbrúsi has been recorded.
Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Blábrystingur, Spésöngvari and Auðnadepill. Snjótittlingur regular in winter. Þyrnisvarri and Grásvarri have both occurred on passage.
