Description
Cardiff Bay is good for birds all year round. Residents include Tildra, Húsaskotta, Strandtittlingur and Gulönd. The first can be seen on the green walkways in groups, whilst the rest can be seen basking on the rocky edges.
Bakkasvala, Bæjasvala and Múrsvölungur can all be seen in summer. Bæjasvala nest in ready-made boxes under the eaves of houses by the roundabout barrage entrance. Bakkasvala nest in the walls of the bay.
Tjaldur can be seen on the barrage all year round, as well as Stelkur. Grænfinka is another resident around the bay. When the tide goes out, many species, such as Brandönd can be seen feeding.
Winter visitors include Dvergmáfur. However, check sightings before going as they tend to move around a lot. Finally, rarities include Stargoði, Hávella and Hringönd.

Easy accessible from Cardiff. Plenty of parking areas available. Click on a P in the map for directions. Walking is possible from Penarth to Barrage. Walking is the best way to explore the area.
