Description
Chief habitats in Elan Valley and Gigrin Kites are: streams and open water, frequented by grebes, Fossbúi and Straumerla. The ancient sessile oak woodland is home to Garðaskotta, Flekkugrípur, Grænsöngvari, Skógfeti, Sparrhaukur and open moorland containing Brandugla, Smyrill, Fjöruspói, Heiðlóa, Lóuþræll, Dalrjúpa, Steindepill, Sönglævirki, Hagaskvetta Bláheiðir and Hrafn.

Access
Kite feeding station south of Rhayader feeds daily each afternoon. It has a hide and parking. Reservoirs are west of Rhayader and have several car parks, wetland birds usually at top ends. For a circular drive to see 4 of the 5 reservoirs, keep turning right to follow Elan valley. Claerwen reservoir is a dead end for cars.
