Description
Fairlop Waters is the largest country park in Redbridge and has a wide diversity of habitats like grassland, woodland, ponds, and lakes. The large boating lake has Kanadagæs, Bleshæna and Vepja. A nesting habitat has been created on the main island for birds. Around the smaller fishing lake Toppgoði, Hnúðsvanur and sometimes Lindastelkur can be observed.
The surrounding area is a mix of open scrub with some thick areas of shrubs and trees which attract Þyrnisöngvari, Netlusöngvari and Hettusöngvari. To south of the main complex and golf course is a small fenced off nature reserve. Birds that you can spot in the area all year round include Grænspæta, Sönglævirki, Gráhegri, Kattugla, Seftittlingur and Þúfutittlingur among others. Some winter visitors are Glókollur, Skutulönd, Skeiðönd and Skúfönd.
