Description
In Glen Tanar 106 bird species have been seen, passerines and raptors prominent. Gullörn, Bláheiðir, Sparrhaukur, Svölugleða, Músvákur, Förufálki, Brandugla, Glókollur, Krossnefur, Barrfinka, Flekkugrípur. Wildcats possible, also Red Deer, Otter, and Pine Marten. Dalrjúpa and Orri occur on higher ground, but although formerly a stronghold for Þiður, these have unfortunately now died out.

Glen Tanar is 6 km (4 miles) SW of Aboyne, which is on the A9 road east of Ballater. The nearest bus service is in Aboyne (6 km). Click on the P in the map to get directions to parking and visitor centre. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 8,5 km.
