Description
NWT Ranworth Broad is accessible to all and boasts a great visitor centre (which is open in the spring and summer) with wide views over Ranworth Broad. The broad (lake) itself offers chances to see Toppgoði, Bláþyrill and Brúnheiðir throughout the year, while the boardwalk trail supports Laufmeisa, Dómpápi and Keldusvín may also be heard.
In winter, the broad will be busy with feeding wildfowl including Rauðhöfðaönd, Urtönd, Skeiðönd, Grafönd and a few Skúfönd. In periods of harsh weather, Sefþvari, Duggönd and other scarcer species may be seen. The alder trees on the trail from the car park may hold good numbers of Barrfinka and Birkifinka.
In summer, there is a chance of seeing a flyover Gjóður, but more likely, there will be plenty of Sílaþerna feeding over the broad. Large gatherings of Landsvala, Bæjasvala and Bakkasvala may also be seen. Listen out for the songs of Gransöngvari, Síkjasöngvari, Sefsöngvari and even a Gaukur along the boardwalk trail.
