Description
Stoke Canon and Brampford Speke are separated by the River Exe, here faster flowing but considerably shallower than at Stoke Canon Meadows (see separate entry) just to the South West. The start of the walk follows the route of the disused Tiverton (Branch) Railway Line, passing through farmland and following the river near Brampford Speke and eventually back to the start point. Some birds you can expect are Fossbúi, Bláþyrill and Straumerla amongst many other species.
The River here tends not to flood as widespread as the aforementioned Stoke Cannon Meadows, and is mostly tree lined near Brampford Speke.

Access
Leave Exeter (Northwards) on the A377 towards Crediton, on reaching Cowley Bridge turn Right onto the A396 to Tiverton. Continue on this road until you reach Stoke Canon. Take the second turning Left in the village that shortly brings you to a Railway Level Crossing with Barriers and Lights (DANGER, WHEN RED LIGHTS FLASH AUTOMATIC BARRIERS DECEND DUE TO ARRIVAL OF HIGH SPEED TRAIN). The SMALL lay-by is just on the corner after this crossing (DO NOT BLOCK GATEWAYS). If you cannot park in this lay-by, try on street parking before you get to the level crossing.
