Description
Talybont Reservoir has two bird hides, car parking, and a nice cafe in the village. Shallow water, marshland and exposed mud at the top end attract dabbling ducks, waders especially Skógarsnípa, Hrossagaukur, Dvergsnípa, Gráhegri, Bjarthegri and Keldusvín in autumn and winter. The woods have Flekkugrípur, Músvákur, Náttugla, Hnotigða, Skógfeti and Náttfari. In the surrounding streams look for Straumerla, Fossbúi and Hagaskvetta. And on the moors may be Fjöruspói, Heiðlóa, Dalrjúpa, Hrafn, Þúfutittlingur and Steindepill . The nearby canal has Bláþyrill.

Access
Between Brecon and Abergavenny. Take the B4558 and turn south in Talybont village. A regular bus service runs through the village, from which it's a 2 mile walk to the reservoir. The circular route up to Tor y Foel is 5 km, with 250 metres of ascent. Stout boots, a hiking pole, snacks, a drink and waterproof clothing are recommended.
