Description
An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly Laufsöngvari and Gransöngvari, but also Netlusöngvari and Hettusöngvari. More mature trees provide habitat for Náttugla. Hnotigða and Grænpáfi have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular Bláþyrill and Straumerla, and occasional Fossbúi in winter. In its lower tidal section Stelkur is regular, and the semi-tame Stokkönds can attract other ducks, including Brandönd, Urtönd, and more rarely Grafönd and Mandarínönd. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; Himbrimi, Langvía and Álka have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of Ritas moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
