The Pallieterpolder is a wetland and reed marsh along the river Beneden-Nete where you'll find a variety of duck species in the numerous ponds, including: Moretta, Moriglione, Marzaiola and in winter Alzavola and Fischione. The area is also rich in wading birds in spring and summer, such as: Totano moro, Pantana, Pavoncella and Pettegola. Also you can spot many reed birds like Cannaiola, Forapaglie comune, Basettino, Cannareccione, Pettazzurro and Migliarino di palude, and also Stiaccino and Saltimpalo.
Occasionally a few shy species appear along the reed edges, such as Porciglione, Voltolino and Tarabuso. Recently also Tarabusino returned as a breeding bird. You can also expect Falco pellegrino, Gheppio, Poiana and Falco di palude in the area. There is also a nice variety of gulls and terns throughout the seasons, so you have a chance of seeing Gabbiano reale, Gabbiano comune, Gabbiano reale pontico, Zafferano and Gabbiano reale nordico, Mignattino comune, Sterna comune and with some luck even Mignattino piombato. In short, a nice birding area with a great variety of birds.

Nederlands: De Pallieterpolder ligt aan de rand van de binnenstad Lier langs de Beneden-Nete. Het is oorspronkelijk ingericht als overstromingsgebied maar is uitgegroeid tot een vogelparadijs. Het is een rietmoeras gebied waar je op de vele plasjes verschillende leuke eendensoorten vind als: Moretta, Moriglione, Marzaiola en in de winter Alzavola en Fischione. Het gebied is ook in de lente en zomer rijk aan steltlopers als: Totano moro, Pantana, Pavoncella en Pettegola. Ook kun je er veel zangvogels als Cannaiola, Forapaglie comune, Basettino, Cannareccione, Pettazzurro en Migliarino di palude in het riet vinden, en verder ook Stiaccino en Saltimpalo.
Langs de rietkanten verschijnen af en toe ook een paar mysterieuze soorten als Porciglione, Voltolino en Tarabuso. Recent broedt ook de Tarabusino terug in het gebied. Je kan ook Falco pellegrino, Gheppio, Poiana en Falco di palude in het gebied verwachten. Ook is er een leuke verscheidenheid van meeuwen en sterns doorheen de seizoenen zo maak je hier kans op Gabbiano reale, Gabbiano comune, Gabbiano reale pontico, Zafferano en Gabbiano reale nordico, Mignattino comune, Sterna comune en af en toe met wat geluk zelfs Mignattino piombato. Kortom een heel mooi gebied met een grote verscheidenheid aan vogels.

The Pallieterpolder is located on the edge of Lier's city center and is very accessible: you can walk or cycle along the Beneden-Nete dike. Parking is available on both sides of the area. Press P on the map for directions to a parking spot.
