Descrizione
The area is of great importance for breeding birds of semi-natural grasslands and wetlands. Around 80 species of breeding birds are recorded annually, including Chiurlo maggiore, Pavoncella, Cicogna bianca , Tuffetto, Porciglione, Quaglia, Marzaiola, Alzavola, Mestolone, Canapiglia, Lodolaio, Cuculo, Pettazzurro, Saltimpalo, Cannaiola (rarely Forapaglie comune and Cannareccione) and Averla piccola. Large flocks of Oca lombardella use the area during winter, and also a small group of Oca lombardella minore from a rewilding project in Sweden has established a "tradition" to visit the area for wintering, starting in 2017. In late winter, the area serves as roosting place for hundreds of Gru and during spring migration, a great variety of ducks and waders can be encountered. Occasionally, rarities show up (e.g. Airone rosso, Moretta tabaccata, Schiribilla).
