Descrizione

The Büsnauer Wiesental (Büsnau meadow valley) is a protected area to the south-west of Stuttgart in direct proximity to the university campus Stuttgart Vaihingen, the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research and the Pfaffenwald forest. The Wiesental consists of meadows, small streams and ponds, hedges and a few reeds and is the only remaining part of a once much larger meadow landscape.

Even though the area is quite small, the Büsnauer Wiesental can be excellent for a variety of passerine birds that are rather uncommon or rare around the city of Stuttgart. Ghiandaia, Codibugnolo, Regolo, Cincia bigia, Zigolo giallo, Cesena, Storno and Picchio rosso mezzano can be found here throughout the entire year. Cannaiola, Cannaiola verdognola, Beccafico, Fiorrancino, Averla piccola and Nibbio bruno are common to uncommon summer guests. In winter, Tordela, Lucherino and Frosone can readily be observed, while Ciuffolotto and Spioncello are uncommon.

With some luck, migration can bring in particular highlights, like Stiaccino, Culbianco or Balia nera, as well as Pispola and Prispolone.

Though technically not part of the protected area, the nearby Pfaffenwald forest houses many interesting forest birds that can sometimes even be observed around the edges of the area. These include Cincia mora, Cincia dal ciuffo, Rampichino alpestre and Picchio nero. The roost of a Allocco is just at the edge of the forest and well known by local birders.
