Although the Dijkveld is close to the city of Assen, the area is rich in birds and other natural beauty. It is perfect for a not too long walk across grasslands, with some sections where you can wander freely off the paths. The lookout hill was created during the construction of the Deurzerdiep canal. From here, there is a beautiful view over the area and the Deurzerdiep canal. There is a bench on the hill. Regular visitors include Averla piccola, Saltimpalo, and various pipits and buntings. In addition, birds of prey such as Poiana and Gheppio regularly soar above the area. The best season to visit is spring or summer.

Nederlands: Het Dijkveld doet dienst als waterwingebied waar prima kan worden gewandeld. Vanaf de uitkijkheuvel heeft men uitzicht over het Deurzerdiep. Hoewel het gebied dicht tegen de stad Assen aan ligt, is het Dijkveld rijk aan vogels en andere natuur. Het leent zich prima voor een niet al te lange wandeling over graslanden, waarbij er op bepaalde delen vrij gestruind kan worden buiten de paden. Het letterlijke hoogtepunt is de uitkijkheuvel welke is ontstaan bij de aanleg van het Deurzerdiep. Vanaf hier is er een mooi uitzicht over het gebied en het Deurzerdiep. Op de heuvel staat een bankje, zodat er lang getuurd kan worden. Vaste gasten zijn Averla piccola, Saltimpalo en verscheidene piepers en gorzen. Daarnaast zweven er regelmatig jagers zoals de Poiana en Gheppio boven het gebied. In de lente en zomer valt hier het meeste te beleven.

The Dijkveld is located on the eastern edge of the city of Assen. Parking is available at the Dijkveldpad parking lot (Dijkveldpad 3) between the Assen Kynologenclub and the 't Asserwapen shooting club. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. From the parking lot, it's a short walk to the start of the route. This location is not easily accessible by public transport. The circular walk shown on the map is approximately 3 km.

Nederlands: Het Dijkveld ligt aan de oostelijke stadsrand van Assen. Er kan geparkeerd worden op parkeerplaats Dijkveldpad (Dijkveldpad 3) tussen de Kynologenclub Assen en Schietsportvereniging ’t Asserwapen. Druk op P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplaats. Vanaf de parkeerplaats is het een kort stukje lopen naar het begin van de route. Deze locatie is met het openbaar vervoer niet goed te bereiken. De rondwandeling die is weergegeven op de kaart is ongeveer 3 km.
