Descrizione
Busör is one of the west coast's best locations for birdwatching, especially in the spring, but the birding can be rewarding all year round. In spring the bird migration can start as early as the end of February with geese and swans, but usually does not start in earnest until the Edredone migration (with occasional Re degli edredoni each spring) around March 20. It continues with Orchetto marino, grebes and skuas. At the end of April, terns and Strolaga minore start migrating with occasional Strolaga beccogiallo and Stercorario mezzano being present. In May, Arctic waders such as Piovanello pancianera, Pittima minore, Pivieressa and Piovanello maggiore can also pass.
The arrival of summer means a more quiet time, with the exception of strong westerly winds that can bring a little bit of everything in the way of seabirds. Autumn migration already starts in mid-July, when the waders start to appear, including Piovanello pancianera, Piovanello comune, Gambecchio comune, Gambecchio nano and sometimes some Gambecchio frullino. With fresh winds from the west, you can have a nice migration of seabirds, including auks, Gabbiano tridattilo, Sula, Fulmaro, skuas, Gabbianello and sometimes even Uccello delle tempeste codaforcuta. The migration often passes close to land.
In winter with fresh winds from the west, you can have a nice stretch of mainly auks and Gabbiano tridattilo. Spioncello is now seen annually on the beach meadows, as are other pipits and Zigolo delle nevi. Piovanello violetto and Marangone dal ciuffo are occasionally seen on the reef. In mild winters, Beccaccino, Frullino and Beccaccia can also overwinter.
Rare birds that have been observed include Oca collorosso, Edredone di Steller, Orchetto marino americano, Orco marino dagli occhiali, Strolaga maggiore, Berta maggiore, Uccello delle tempeste, Garzetta, Airone bianco maggiore, Piviere americano, Piovanello pettorale, Falaropo beccolargo, Gabbiano glauco, Gabbiano reale, Gabbiano reale pontico, Gabbiano di Sabine, Gabbiano di Ross, Sterna zampenere, Mignattino alibianche, Uria di Brunnich (several finds), Tortora selvatica, Gufo reale, Saltimpalo, Luì piccolo iberico, Fiorrancino, Verzellino, etc.
Breeding birds include Pettegola, Picchio rosso minore, Picchio verde and Luì piccolo.
Tip: Take a walk in the coastal forest inside the cape. Especially after nights with good small bird migration, as there can be a lot of birds there.
