Brookmill's habitat is actively managed to provide the best conditions for species that are harder to spot elsewhere in London, including Martin pescatore, Garzetta, Capinera and Regolo. The pond is very peaceful and particularly pretty in spring, with a very loud dawn chorus. Oca egiziana, Anatra mandarina and Airone cenerino also feed there.

The park is right alongside Elverson Station (on London's DLR line) or just five minutes from Lewisham centre. There's a cycle path that cuts through the park that reaches London's Thames path at Greenwich in less than 15 minutes.
