In Glen Tanar 106 bird species have been seen, passerines and raptors prominent. Aquila reale, Albanella reale, Sparviere, Nibbio reale, Poiana, Falco pellegrino, Gufo di palude, Regolo, Crociere comune, Lucherino, Balia nera. Wildcats possible, also Red Deer, Otter, and Pine Marten. Pernice bianca nordica and Fagiano di monte occur on higher ground, but although formerly a stronghold for Gallo cedrone, these have unfortunately now died out.
