From the circular 10 km perimeter track the reservoir and its flooded backwaters can be viewed with ease. The northern reach favours woodland birds and in summer several species of warbler breed here. Merlo acquaiolo breed along the inflow river at the northern end. In autumn, when water levels are low, Piro piro piccolo and Piro piro culbianco are regular visitors. In winter good numbers of wildfowl congregate on open waters and within the wooded creeks. You can spot Alzavola, Quattrocchi, Tuffetto, Smergo maggiore, Strolaga minore and Strolaga maggiore. The main body of the reservoir is a roost for large numbers of gulls with sometimes Gabbiano islandico and Gabbiano glauco.
