Among the birds you can spot in the area are woodpeckers, Rampichino alpestre, Picchio muratore, Luì grosso, Usignolo di fiume, Forapaglie comune, Cannaiola, Porciglione, Starna, Pernice rossa, Falco pescatore (on migration), Pavoncella and gulls in winter.

The car park is one mile west of Hertford on the St Albans road A414. Turn right at the roundabout into Thieves Lane. Look for the white direction signs. Bus stop in Thieves Lane. Hertford train station 3/4 mile. the suggested walking route is about 6 km/4 miles.
