Camp Salmen Nature Park has numerous trails through water front habitat, bottomland hardwood and pine forests. There is a playgound area and historical sites with groomed lawn space. The trails and historical areas provide a lot of forest edges. Golden-crowned Kinglet, Northern Parula, Yellow-throated Vireo, Prothonotary Warbler, and Hooded Warbler are frequently present.
The birding, variety of trails and amenities make it a pleasant stop if you are in the area.

Accesso
The park is located in Slidell, Louisiana and is accessed from Highway 190/Gause Boulevard on the south side of the street. Access is by car. There is no public transportation. Note that the entrance, while well marked, is easy to miss. Look carefully for the entrance sign. Press P on the map for directions. The park is open from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Allow up one to two hours for a visit, depending upon how many trail sections are to be covered. The route shown on the map is about 3 miles.

On weekends the comfort station and playground area can be very busy although the trails are rarely crowded. Parking may get limited.
The popular Tammany Trace multi-use trail runs through the park so you should be aware of bicyclists using the trails.
