Descrizione
Sunset Point is a pleasant small park bordered by woodlots and Lake Pontchartrain. From the turn into the street to the park there are woodlots with a variety of small birds such as Great Crested Flycatcher, Carolina Chickadee, Brown Thrasher, Northern Cardinal and Eastern Towhee.
Into the park itself Loggerhead Shrike is likely year round. In winter the views of the lake area include Lesser Scaup, Laughing Gull, Ring-billed Gull, Common Loon and Double-crested Cormorant. A sheltered inlet viewable from the west end of the park is consistently good for Bufflehead in winter.
This site has had rarities such as Black Scoter and Warbling Vireo. Fall through spring are best for possible rarities. It is a pretty park with nice spots for picnic meals and has public restrooms (1). It is open dawn to dusk.
