Description

Sandön is a, sandy, pine‑covered island in the outermost Stockholm archipelago. Sandhamn is the lively village on the western edge of Sandön and a historic site. With its special location, the island is a paradise for those who seek an archipelago with rugged cliffs and white beaches. It is lively in and around the island’s port. If you leave the harbor there are extensive promenades along the beaches and a pine forests filled with dwindling paths.

Because Sandön is one of the first large islands facing the open Baltic, it can act as a natural funnel for migrants. On the right day, especially in May or September, you might see flocks of finches, pipits, or even raptors crossing the island on their way to or from the mainland.
