Description
There are numerous car parks around Blagdon Reservoir, and two bird hides. An 8 km circular walk around the lake is possible. See map on the link below.
The chief interest is the easternmost hide looking over the autumn mudflats. Expect обичен свиркач, црноопашна блатарка, бел свиркач, црвенонога тринга, зеленонога тринга and plovers. The swampy wooded area by the hide may have шумска шљука and обична бекасина. Wintering ducks may include четириока патка, патка свиркач, патка лажичарка, perhaps долгоопашеста патка or Pied-billed Grebe. In stormy winter weather, proximity to the Bristol channel makes this a refuge for windblown seabirds. 177 species have been seen, including rarities such as Red-necked Phalarope, Baird's Sandpiper, белоопашест свиркач and црна рибарка. Access
From Bristol take A38 road south, turn left after ten miles and follow signposts. From Chew Valley lake it is a short journey westward along minor roads. A permit is required, obtainable from Bristol Water, see link below. Ask for combination to gatelocks.
