In Glen Tanar 106 bird species have been seen, passerines and raptors prominent. златен орел, Полска еја, јастреб врапчар, црвена луња, глувчар, сив сокол, блатен був, жолтоглаво кралче, Крстоклун, елова зелентарка, црноглаво муварче. Wildcats possible, also Red Deer, Otter, and Pine Marten. Red Grouse and мал тетреб occur on higher ground, but although formerly a stronghold for голем тетреб, these have unfortunately now died out.

Glen Tanar is 6 km (4 miles) SW of Aboyne, which is on the A9 road east of Ballater. The nearest bus service is in Aboyne (6 km). Click on the P in the map to get directions to parking and visitor centre. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 8,5 km.
