Description
Shorncote is a 20 hectare reed bed situated in the north western corner of the Cotswold Water Park. Besides reed beds the area consists of wet meadows, small lakes and working quarries (access and views restricted at working quarries) with 2 bird hides overlooking the larger lakes. The reedbeds provide homes and shelter for birds such as Мочварна овесарка, мал трскар, трскар рогозар, мал нуркач, барска кокошка, обична бекасина and голем воден бик. Also Otter, Water Vole and many dragonflies can be observed.
Shorncote has attracted a number of migrant and winter rarities including блатен був, ибис, големо страче and various waders. This is also a regular area for roosting обичен сколовранец.

Access
Park in South Cerney at the Upper-up sports field car park (SU 043 970). Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking walk along the gravel track through the sports field, across the busy main road and into the wet meadows towards Shorncote. The hides are reached in about 1/2 mile.
