Beschrijving
Vardzia is a 12th‑century cave monastery complex. The site combines a great site with historical significance with birdwatching. Rotsklever are numerous and a walk through the many rooms hacked into the stone face of the valley will result in hearing Roodvoorhoofdkanarie and Blauwe Rotslijster. During Spring and Summer months, Alpengierzwaluw can be seen high above the valley. There are many nests of Rotszwaluw and Huiszwaluw along the rock faces and Aziatische Steenpatrijs can be heard in the surroundings. During the winter months, Rotskruiper can be found on the cliff walls. Waterspreeuw are common along the Kura river.
There is some debate on the occurrence of Grote Rotsklever in this area, so be the first to definitively prove its occurrence! A small lake (1) along the road to Vardzia is good for migrants during Spring migration with Veldrietzanger, Zwartkoprietzanger and many Woudaap.
