Beschrijving
The area is of great importance for breeding birds of semi-natural grasslands and wetlands. Around 80 species of breeding birds are recorded annually, including Wulp, Kievit, Ooievaar , Dodaars, Waterral, Kwartel, Zomertaling, Wintertaling, Slobeend, Krakeend, Boomvalk, Koekoek, Blauwborst, Roodborsttapuit, Kleine Karekiet (rarely Rietzanger and Grote Karekiet) and Grauwe Klauwier. Large flocks of Kolgans use the area during winter, and also a small group of Dwerggans from a rewilding project in Sweden has established a "tradition" to visit the area for wintering, starting in 2017. In late winter, the area serves as roosting place for hundreds of Kraanvogel and during spring migration, a great variety of ducks and waders can be encountered. Occasionally, rarities show up (e.g. Purperreiger, Witoogeend, Klein Waterhoen).
