Beschrijving
The beautiful, open, dry mountainous landscape around Agia Paraskevi has a high biodiversity. The sea is also nearby. In spring you can sometimes see Fluiter passing by. The villages are swarming with Italiaanse Mus and Raaf and Arendbuizerd fly overhead. Sometimes you can spot a Purperreiger flying over. If you go higher up you can encounter Vale Gier and Lammergier. You can also see Rüppells Grasmus in the mountains. The Kleine Zwartkop can be heard singing almost everywhere. You also see Hop regularly.

Agia Paraskevi is located roughly in the center of the island of Crete, about 70 km southwest of Heraklion. The area is fairly remote and can be explored by car via the main roads, making stops along the way. Cycling is very difficult because there are many long, steep mountains. The road is almost always paved, but not all sections are in the best condition. You can park almost anywhere by car. If you want to see the most birds, go to both the sea and the mountains, but that will certainly take a whole day. The route indicated on the map is about 80 km.
