Bogor Botanical Gardens (Kebun Raya Bogor) was founded in 1817 and today holds more than thirteen thousand species of trees and plants from across the archipelago and beyond. The gardens have huge old trees, ponds and quiet shaded avenues. Almost 200 bird species have been recorded in the gardens. The lovely atmosphere makes it a joy to explore the area. The gardens are broadly square in shape and cover an area of 87 hectares. The Ciliwung River runs through the park in two split channels and there are several bridges spanning the river channels.

Birds you have a good chance of obserserving include Pink-necked Green-Pigeon, Grey-cheeked Green-Pigeon, Black-naped Fruit-Dove, Black-crowned Night Heron, Blue-eared Kingfisher, Collared Kingfisher, Freckle-breasted Woodpecker, Coppersmith Barbet, Black-naped Oriole, Black-winged Flycatcher-shrike, Horsfield's Babbler, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch and several species of bulbuls, munias and sunbirds.

Toegang

Bogor Botanical Gardens sits right in the centre of Bogor, about 60 km south of Jakarta. The main entrance is on Jl. Ir. H. Juanda. If you’re coming from Jakarta, the simplest route is to take the commuter line (KRL) from Jakarta Kota, Manggarai, or Sudirman to Bogor Station (1). From the station it’s a short walk or a quick ride by angkot or taxi to the garden’s main gate.

The gardens are open Monday to Friday from 08.00 to 16.00, and on weekends from 07.00 to 16.00. Admission is about €/$ 3 per person. There are many paths to explore the gardens. On the map you see a 5 km circular walk, but this is just a suggestion, there are many other paths you can follow.
