Beschrijving
Pollardstown Fen is recognised as an internationally important fen ecosystem and many birds breed here. A walk along the boardwalk on an early spring morning is awash with singing birds. Wintertaling, Dodaars, Waterral, Watersnip, Sprinkhaanzanger, Rietzanger and Rietgors all breed on the fen. In the surrounding woodlands, Zwartkop, Tjiftjaf, Fitis and Grauwe Vliegenvanger all breed and Holenduif have been recorded in the surrounding farmland.
The fen is also the best place in Kildare to see Bruine Kiekendief, with the species recorded sporadically in the last number of years. The area is under-birded and there is potential for many more interesting discoveries.
