Beschrijving

The Labná Archaeological Zone is part of the Puuc region, a cluster of Maya cities that flourished mainly between the 7th and 10th centuries AD. It is renowned for its Puuc-style architecture, which features elaborately decorated stone facades with intricate mosaics, differing from the more common stucco and painted surfaces seen in other Maya regions. Labná is situated within the Puuc Biosphere Reserve, which means its preservation is closely linked to protecting the surrounding natural environment.

The archaeological site is small but the surrounding lowland jungle is extensive. It provides habitat for many resident and migratory birds. Around Labná, you can expect to see a variety of birds such as trogons, motmots, woodpeckers, orioles, flycatchers and several species of hummingbirds.
