The Mediterranean lagoon (Akdeniz Gölü) near Gölköy attracts many herons and other birds. Among the birds you can observe at the lake are Blauwe Reiger, Grote Zilverreiger, Kleine Zilverreiger and Dodaars. Also passerines such as Kleine Zwartkop and Roodborsttapuit are abundant in the surrounding habitats.
