Brookmill's habitat is actively managed to provide the best conditions for species that are harder to spot elsewhere in London, including IJsvogel, Kleine Zilverreiger, Zwartkop and Goudhaan. The pond is very peaceful and particularly pretty in spring, with a very loud dawn chorus. Nijlgans, Mandarijneend and Blauwe Reiger also feed there.

The park is right alongside Elverson Station (on London's DLR line) or just five minutes from Lewisham centre. There's a cycle path that cuts through the park that reaches London's Thames path at Greenwich in less than 15 minutes.
