The Taw/Torridge Estuary has the third largest concentration of waders in Devon. Specialties are Goudplevier, with a possibility of Zwarte Ibis. Fremington Quay and Pill is on the South shore of the River Taw West of the town of Barnstaple.

Leave the town of Barnstaple (south of the river) on the B3233, after passing through Bickington look for sign to Fremington Quay on the right, this narrow minor road runs beside Fremington Pill and has some pull ins (technically passing places), to check this area for birds. Further down this road is Fremington Quay with a car park. The circular route that is shown on the map is about 5 km.

At Fremington Quay is a section of the Tarka Trail cycle path that runs from Barnstaple via Bideford, those with time can walk further East or West along this path.
