Beschrijving
Loch Gruinart is one of the best places in Scotland to see Alpenkraai (northernmost nesting site), Kwartelkoning (a few) and wintering geese (up to 50,000, mostly Rotgans, Brandgans, Grauwe Gans and Kleine Rietgans, plus Wilde Zwaan). The RSPB reserve has a hide, a visitor centre and Natural history centre. Birds here include Zeearend, Steenarend, Smelleken, Blauwe Kiekendief, Waterral, Porseleinhoen, 16 regular wader species, 3 tern species, 3 diver species, Velduil, Frater and Oeverpieper.
At the sea end of the loch, Ardnare Point is a good seawatch location for viewing Jan-van-gent, divers, shearwaters, skuas, auks and sea ducks such as IJseend, Zwarte Zee-eend and Middelste Zaagbek. Best place also for Alpenkraai. Ardnare loch is favoured by wintering dabbling ducks - Wintertaling, Smient, Krakeend and Slobeend.
