The Loch of Skene is a large shallow freshwater lake partially surrounded by woodlands and located within extensive mixed-agriculture farmland. The loch is known for its natural beauty and the variety of wildlife it supports. It is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Ramsar site for wildlife conservation purposes. The area supports concentrations of wildfowl in autumn and winter. Excellent for observing Kleine Rietgans in winter, as well as Brilduiker, Smient, Kuifeend, Grauwe Gans and Knobbelzwaan. The lake can attract rare migrants at any time of the year. Visarend fishes in the loch in summer.

The Loch of Skene is located 9 miles (14 km) west of Aberdeen, near the village of Skene. Easy parking on the east side of the lake. Press P for directions to the parking spot. From the parking you can walk through the forest to the lake.
