Beschrijving
Blean Woods is a patchwork of traditional coppice woodland, high forest, glades and heathland. The mix of habitats attracts lots of different bird species. In the dense thickets birds like Nachtegaal nest. Some areas of the woodland are made up almost entirely of large oaks and beech trees. Here you can observe Grote Bonte Specht and Kleine Bonte Specht. As night falls on summer evenings you can see the territorial display flight of the Houtsnip. The breeding birds of the Blean Woods include other typical deciduous woodland species as Sperwer and Bosuil. The Nachtzwaluw breeds in more open, recently felled areas. Boomvalk is often seen on passage.
